Netflix series on Bitfinex crypto hack is up for production

The Netflix show will cover one of the biggest financial crimes in the year 2016. It will showcase the hack in the form of a documentary and how the event led to a financial setback for a number of investors. The official statement from the video streaming platform said:“Netflix has ordered a documentary series about a married couple’s alleged scheme to launder billions of dollars worth of stolen cryptocurrency in the biggest criminal financial crime case in history.”
The show is based on Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan, a couple who was “arrested in their New York City apartment on Tuesday, February 8, and now face charges of conspiring to launder nearly 120,000 Bitcoin tied to the 2016 hack of a virtual currency exchange.”
Regulators raced to track movement
The couple aimed to launder the money using various identity cards, buying gold and NFTs, while the authorities played catch up with the two couples to trace the money using blockchain technology.Chris Smith will be directing this show which will show the chase and the entire methodology that the couple used to cover up their crime and liquidate their holdings which were related to the Bitfinex hack. Nick Bilton will be the executive producer of the show.
