In the cryptocurrency market, understanding whales and market movers is important. “Whales” can manipulate the price of an asset by selling-off large quantities to the market in a very short period of time. Whales can be an individuals or a group of people/funds that typically hold at least 1,000 BTC.
The term “Whale” comes from exactly that. Whales are the largest animal in the ocean and can “eat up” much smaller fish without much hassle. This is an “off-record” transaction that usually occurs directly between the exchange and the purchasing body.
