CME to launch micro Ether futures next month
According to a press release, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) will launch micro Ether futures on December 6.
Micro Ether futures will allow the contract size to be smaller
Currently, the CME offers trading in ether futures with a contract size of 50 ETH ($222,000). With micro Ether futures, the contract size will be much smaller, allowing for more precise trading. "Since the launch of Ether futures in February, we have seen steady growth in liquidity in these contracts, especially among institutional traders" Tim McCourt, global head of equity index and alternative investment products at CME Group, said in the press release.The new contract will be cash-settled and based on the CME CF Ether dollar reference rate, which serves as a once-a-day reference rate for the U.S. dollar price of Ether. Micro Ether futures are listed on the CME and are subject to the rules of the CME.
CME offers a wide range of products
CME currently offers trading in Bitcoin and Ether futures and micro Bitcoin futures and options on Bitcoin futures. The trade is always settled in cash and uses reference prices from CF benchmarks.To date, the exchange has seen a record trading volume of more than 675,500 Ether futures, representing a value of 33.6 million ETH ($149 billion).
