Top Spanish soccer league LaLiga has signed an exclusive partnership with French blockchain fantasy soccer game startup Sorare to issue NFTs for all of its players.
LaLiga clubs will receive royalties from NFT sales
The partnership between LaLiga and Sorare includes players from LaLiga Santander (first division) and LaLiga Smartbank (second division) and will allow collectors and fans to compete with teams of five in a series of different fantasy soccer tournaments. LaLiga clubs will receive royalties from NFT sales, and Sorare has paid the league a minimum guarantee to ensure the exclusivity of the deal.
LaLiga’s president Javier Tebas said in a press release “This partnership with Sorare, the most exciting sports NFT project today, enables us to reach new audiences globally and gives existing fans additional ways they can get involved with the players and the clubs they love”.
What is Sorare?
Sorare is a platform that targets the fantasy sports market differently than just collecting cards. They use blockchain technology to turn cards into NFTs. Users collect and trade cards and use them in a weekly lineup of five players. The performance of the cards depends on how the soccer players play on the field, and the best results in the competitive weekly tournaments earn cryptocurrency.
Most users are from Europe, but there are collectors from all over the world who play the game. Because of its popularity the company has already been licensed to produce NFTs by most of the world’s top 100 soccer clubs, including Juventus, AC Milan, Liverpool FC, Paris Saint-Germain FC, and Real Madrid.
