This week, Coinbase disclosed some of its cards up their sleeve. The head of the Cyber Unit of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Robert Cohen, is officially joining Coinbase’s team. Cohen will be allocated into Coinbase’s law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP.
The former lawyer has managed several cases of cryptocurrency fraud in Washington and now the ex-government official will aim to provide more confidence to institutions, banks and exchanges that are currently working with Coinbase.
Cohen has 15 years experience with the SEC and since 2017 the former executive was closely working with national security issues around cryptocurrencies. Robert is also highly experienced with lawsuits and legal activity involving blockchain technology.
Now that he is no longer doing public service, Cohen has legal prohibitions that prevent him from speaking to other SEC executives. The prohibition will make sure he does not use any of his influence to reach corporative goals.
