According to Financial Magnates, Paypal representatives did not attend this months Libra Association meeting this week. Some rumors affirm that the PayPal board has been considering the possibility of withdrawing from the entire project.

On Thursday, several companies involved with the association, such as Mastercard, Visa, and Stripe, gathered to discuss key steps to follow in the upcoming months. PayPal may have gotten cold feet as their representatives made no appearance. The international payment company is one of the most important members of the association, and their absence came as a surprise. Rumours are also suggesting that the remittance company is not the only one distancing from Libra.

Financial Magnates states that the decision of coming out of the “Libra Club” is based on “concerns over maintaining positive relationships with regulators who have reservations about the project. They believe that they were misled about the extent to which regulators were comfortable with the launch of Libra”.

On Twitter, David Marcus, head of Calibra, replied to the allegations by saying: “official 1st wave of Libra Association members will be formalized in the weeks to come”. Thus, the comments make us believe that he is not denying the withdrawal of PayPal (or confirming it). Dante Disparte, head of policy and communications of Libra, also added:

We recognise that change is hard and that each organization that started this journey will have to make its own assessment of risks and rewards of being committed to seeing through the change that Libra promise

Those announcements could be the cherry on the top of uncertainty around Libra, as the project has been facing a ton of obstacles and critics. What is coming next to Libra’s plot? We don’t know, but we are certainly going to listen to some updates very soon.
