Deutsche Börse Group announced on Thursday that it has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Swiss fintech company Crypto Finance AG.
The company will continue to operate as an independent brand
The deal, signed in June, means that Deutsche Börse Group’s clients will now have access to services related to crypto-assets. In addition, Crypto Finance will use a network of clients and the infrastructure of Deutsche Börse to expand its team and its portfolio of products and services.
CEO and co-founder Jan Brzezek and the current management team will continue to lead Crypto Finance and retain a significant stake in the company. The company will continue to operate as an independent brand, focusing on banks, asset managers, fintech, and other financial intermediaries as its primary customers. Nevertheless, Crypto Finance’s current CEO, Dr. Tobias Reichmuth, has stepped down. Eric Leupold, head of cash market at Deutsche Börse, has been appointed.
What is Crypto Finance AG?
Crypto Finance AG provides institutional and professional clients with tools for cryptocurrency trading, storage, and investment in over 200 digital assets. The Zug-based company is regulated by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), the Swiss regulatory authority. Crypto Finance Group bridges the gap between the traditional financial world and the emerging digital asset markets by providing services to professional investors investing in blockchain technology.
The move comes just two months after Deutsche Börse teamed up with Commerzbank to invest in fintech 360X with Commerzbank in October. The deal was struck to create a blockchain-based digital marketplace for digital asset classes in art and real estate.
